The WCA Band Program is continuing to grow and take new strides to improve the students' music experience at Westminster. In 2010, the pep band took the field for their very first halftime performance. This year, you will see Westminster's first Marching Band. They will be performing music from "The Mask of Zorro" complete with marching, color guard, and a pit percussion.
Also in 2010, the Wind Ensemble was established. Only the top musicians are chosen to perform in the Wind Ensemble. At the annual Music Performance Assessment in February, the WCAWE scored all superior ratings for their stage performance. This year, they will again perform at MPA as well as other music festivals and competitions.
At Westminster, we want our student musicians to be excellent. Many of our Wind Ensemble members take private lessons and participate in university honor bands and even the All-District and All-State Honor Bands. Our percussionists have the opportunity to work with a percussion instructor three days a week. With so much one-on-one and small group instruction, the band program is able to grow and perform classic band literature as well as new and challenging music by great new composers.
