Student Leadership Academy

At Westminster, education is built with leadership in mind. Our goal for each graduate is college or vocation, but it does not stop there. We desire each student to not merely learn about leadership, but to be engaged in opportunities where they will experience Godly leadership first-hand. We are committed to providing opportunities that demonstrate what Biblical leadership really means.

In alignment with this mission, in the fall of 2012, Westminster will launch the Westminster Leadership Academy. In its inaugural year, the intent of Westminster Leadership Academy is to promote leadership in all areas of life. WLA will give students hands on knowledge of leadership principles and begin the process of learning how to practice those principles in their daily lives. WLA is available to students’ grades 8-12.

Year one will include the following leadership experiences:

  • Opportunities to hear and have discussions with successful Christian community leaders
  • Read assigned leadership books and be prepared to discuss. (One book per quarter)
  • Set personal leadership goals for completion

  • In its first year, students will attend a one week summer leadership program and will be required to attend once a month lunch time meetings.

Westminster’s Leadership Academy is in partnership with Student Leadership University. For more information on Student Leadership University, please visit them online at www.studentleadership.net.

For Westminster students also regularly participate and are encouraged to research and participate in local, state and national leadership opportunities. For example, Westminster students regularly participate in the People to People Youth Ambassador Programs and the Chamber of Commerce’s Youth Leadership Program. We annually send representatives to Boys and Girls State competitions, The Governor’s School, HOBY, and the National Leadership Seminar in Washington, D.C. Westminster students are also a part of our own John Knox Chapter of the National Honor Society.
