WCA's Pre-Kindergarten equips children (who will be four years old by September 1) for their Kindergarten year, preparing the foundation for their academic careers at our school. We offer a developmental and academic program with spiritual emphasis incorporated within a loving environment. Students are offered a variety of educational experiences involving all their senses so they can appreciate and learn about God's world through academics, play, music, art, learning centers, relationship-building, and more.
Students are guided through daily Bible lessons using ABC God's Word and Me by Priscilla Stewart and Angie Benner. Children hide God's Word in their hearts using ABC Scripture memory cards to correspond with the letter they are learning. Each week the Pre-K class gathers together with other classes on campus for chapel time. Chapel is opened in prayer, a Bible lesson is taught by a teacher or local minister, hymns or Scripture songs are sung, and classes occasionally perform skits, plays, or puppetry to illustrate Biblical truths.
To address the academic needs of our Pre-K students, the scope and sequence of Saxon Early Learning is used. It is a comprehensive curriculum including the "key instructional elements of language development, literacy, mathematics, science, creative arts, social and emotional development, approaches to learning, and physical health and development." While this curriculum is indeed comprehensive, our teachers supplement the curriculum by teaching our students to view this world and the entirety of the educational process through God's eyes, instilling early a worldview that aligns with our God and his Truth.
