Middle School (6-8)
The goal of our middle school (grades six through eight) is to prepare students academically, spiritually, physically and emotionally for the rigors of our high school. Westminster requires our teachers to train students in their subjects and in life. Westminster has set up a "scaffolding" system which provides teachers a venue to informally provide students multiple opportunities to learn how to organize, prioritize, take notes and study. This scaffold system is not meant to be a formal course; instead, it is meant to be taught in informal ways through the relationship between the teacher and the students.
Our middle school is structured according to the developmental cognitive growth of students in conjunction with a changing culture: sixth grade is purposely more elementary in nature; seventh and eighth grade students have more responsibility and independence. We prepare our students for our high school by instilling a strong work ethic in them in conjunction with our academics and scaffold systems. WCA's middle school also offers a wide variety of athletic and extra-curricular opportunities for our students. Westminster’s focus on discipleship is invaluable in our middle school. Faculty and staff who teach in an excellent way and disciple students are vital to the middle school student. Middle school contains three of the most developmentally-challenging years that students will endure. Westminster considers it paramount that middle school students be known intimately by their administrator and faculty in ways that are relational and spiritual. Dick Spybey, Middle School Principal |
