Bible study is an essential part of a child's education. We use God' Wonders, the kindergarten-level book of the Story of God and His People to teach about God's greatness and goodness. We memorize scripture verses and the Children's First Catechism.
We use a phonics-based reading program, Wilson Language Basics: Foundations. This program correlates reading, handwriting, and the auditory/oral language skills. It is a multi-sensory program using visual, kinesthetic, and auditory activities to help beginning readers achieve a high degree of success. Our social studies and science curricula are hands-on and thematic. Students are introduced to our society and culture. In science, children learn of their own uniqueness, stewardship over Creation, and the beauty and wonder of God's world.
Math K by Saxon Publishers, Inc. develops understanding of patterns and concepts of math through use of tangible materials. Instruction involves left-right concepts, one-to-one matching, and ordinal numbers. Kindergartners learn to recognize numbers, shapes, coins, and time on the hours, developing skills in oral counting, sorting items, using a calendar, graphing real objects, and measuring.
Kindergartners receive specialized instruction in music, art, library, and physical education. They learn to serve God and glorify Him in all they do, whether it is math, reading, P.E., music or playtime.
NOTE: WCA's kindergarten has a September 1st birthday cut-off. Children need to be five years old by September 1st during the school year for which they've applied.
