Procedures and Guidelines

Accountability Binder

·        The Accountability Binder will be used as a Homework Folder AND a Friday Folder. Inside the folder there is a Send Back pocket  that will help the teacher/student communicate with the parents the child’s progress with fourth grade accountability challenges.   Please look at this pocket every day, encourage your child, and send back papers that  require a parent response..   Also check to see if  we are sending home any papers that need correction and/or a parent signature.   There should be a due date on these papers.  There is a Keep at Home  pocket intended for communicating information about meetings, field trips, etc., any day of the week but more frequently on Fridays.  There is also a Special pocket for your child

·        On Fridays this same binder will come home with lunch order forms, notes and checked papers.  All graded papers may stay at home except for those that need a signature.   A parent’s signature is required on any papers that have a score of C or below  before the folder is returned to school on Monday.

Homework Journal

·        Students may highlight lesson plans copied from the internet and write additional homework on those plans in lieu of a homework journal.

·        The lesson plans will be taken home each day in the Accountability Binder.  It must be initialed by the parent Monday –Thursday and returned the next day.

·        No Friday Homework Journal signatures are required. The new lesson plans will serve in this capacity.

Homework--should be minimal and fall into one of the following categories:

·        Bible Memory (due Thursday)

·        Spelling homework each Monday night

·        Book Reports or other projects

·        Finish or practice a concept we are learning

·        Review for upcoming tests.

·        Fifteen minutes of reading each day at least five days a week.

Late Work /Nameless Papers

·        All work must be completed and turned in when due.  Ten points will be deducted for each day a large project or  assignment is late (Ex. book reports, projects with a week long due date, etc.). The exception is spelling homework on Monday. If it is not turned in on Tuesday the child will receive a zero. If the child turns it in on Wed. he/she will get half credit.  The third day will result in a zero. This policy also applies to daily work. If Monday is a holiday, spelling homework will be given on Tuesday.

·        Five points will be deducted from a nameless paper.

Lunch Room

·        Manners will be emphasized.

·        The children will not exchange items of their lunch with one another.

 ·        Each child will be encouraged to eat the protein and complex carbohydrate portion of

his/her lunch first.

·        When you come to join us you will be reminded that during the first ten minutes there will be no talking.  Quiet voices will be allowed for the remainder of the time.

 Tardies

·        Students not in the classroom when the 8 o’clock bell rings will be considered tardy.

Absences due to Illness

·        Every effort will be made to prepare your child’s make-up work on the day of his/her absence.  Please call the office or email me to let me know the approximate time you plan to pick it up.  If it is during the school day we will have it in the office area for you.

·        The teacher will help the student prioritize the work missed.  The student will then be responsible for turning in the completed work (2X the number of days missed).

Family Vacation Absences

·        To get the maximum benefit of classroom instruction and learning it is to your child’s benefit to be in class as much as possible.  Whenever family travel does not fit the school calendar, routine work may be assigned prior to an absence.  Additional work missed can be made up after your child returns to class.  It is the student’s responsibility, without teacher’s reminders, to turn the work in on time (2X the number of days missed) or the work will receive a “0.”

· Your child will be given credit for a well-written journal of your vacation.  More credit will be given if it includes some math story problems, geography and history facts.

Carpool Pick-up

·        The children will be seated in the hall at 2:55 p.m. to quietly wait for their carpool number to be called.

·        Teachers will be on patrol in the hall and outdoors to expedite the 2:55-3:15 pick-up.  Any parent who needs to speak to one of them during this time will be asked to go to the teacher’s classroom until she/he is available.

·        Carpool is over at 3:15.  All children who have not been picked up by this time will be brought to our school’s day care.

Before School

·        The staff will not be on duty until 7:40.  If your child is at school earlier than this and is not attended by a responsible adult, he/she will be sent to day care.

·        ALL STUDENTS will be requested to sit against the wall in the hall.  No standing and moving about unless absolutely necessary.

God bless you for trusting me with your precious child. With His help I will guide them through this year!
