SLOSS FURNACE & SOUTHERN ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER
FIELD TRIP

Purpose: We will learn about the history of the Sloss Furnace and its influence on the growth
of Birmingham. The two-hour tour includes a video, a walking tour of the site, and a hands-on iron casting activity for the students. At the Southern Environmental Center (Birmingham-Southern College) we will learn more about how we can be better stewards of our environment—air, water, and land.

When: April 16, 2008
depart M&M at 8:00; return 4:00

Where: Birmingham, AL
Sloss Furnace—corner of First Ave. North and 32^nd St.
Birmingham-Southern College—900 Arkadelphia Rd.

Cost: Sloss Furnace: Students-$15; Adults-$5
Southern Environmental Center: Everyone-$1

Transportation: Drivers are needed. Please complete the form below and if you are able to
drive indicate how many “buckled” passengers can ride in your vehicle.

Snack: Send a substantial, nutritious snack in a separate bag.

Lunch: Please bring a labeled lunch and drink, ice chests will be provided. Do not send lunchboxes. Lunches should be packed in gallon sized zip lock bags.
