USING THE NEWSPAPER:

Lesson 1: “The Front Page”

Find the flag

What info is contained in the “ears”?

Find the price of the paper

Review the index and its purpose(locating items)

Find most important story on the first page (in right hand column as that is where the eyes goes first)

Lesson 2/3: “Using the newspaper” Introduction to the newspaper: parts of the newspaper and how each segment helps to inform, interpret, and entertain; impact of choices and how they affect readers

Find and cut out 1 example of each of these purposes: inform/educate/advise, interpret, and entertain and glue stick into folder on handout paper
