Vocabulary and Grammar Workbook
The French
curriculum provides a well-rounded approach to language learning. The
accompanying CDs will allow a language lab session with each lesson. Up-to-date
cultural material is included with each lesson in addition to vocabulary and grammar.
You will learn to speak, understand, read, and write French! In fact, after
this year, you may be able to seek employment in a francophone!!
We will have
weekly scripture memory for an oral grade.
REQUIREMENTS: a loose leaf notebook always
containing usable paper
blue or black ink pen (not pink, purple,
green, etc.---BLEU OU NOIR)
Check
supplies before coming to class--not after you are in!!!!!
GRADING: All
points earned will be divided by the total number of points possible. Daily
participation and doing assigned homework will add "beaucoup" points.
Bonus points will be available on every test and on most quizzes.
Grades will be posted weekly and may be checked via
the grade book on the computer.
QUIZZES: 20-50 pts. weekly vocabulary
weekly oral scripture memory and other oral work
pop quizzes as deemed necessary (HINT: being prepared for
class eliminates the need for some quizzes!)
TESTS: 100 pts. usually
after every chapter
QUARTER PROJECT: 50-100 pts. research and oral reports will be given in English two
quarters (first quarter: research a French speaking country/ second quarter:
research a French holiday), third quarter a description of your family and pets
will be given in French, and 4th quarter an oral piece will be given in French.
RULES:
You must be in your seat ready to begin (books,
paper, pen on your desk) within 10 seconds of the
ringing of the tardy bell or you will be marked tardy. You will have a short assignment
to complete the first few minutes of each class period .
Always look on the board for your instructions for beginning each class.
Usually these will be assignments to be completed individually without talking.
Each day will require oral participation. Should a student interfere with the
teaching of the class, an additional assignment will be given to be turned in
at the beginning of the next class.
Each class period: you will need to
bring your textbook, your vocabulary workbook, your
notebook with ample paper and a pen.
Participation in classroom activities is essential.
************************NO GUM
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lesson plans will be posted on my page of the
school website. You should be able to see the current as well as all previous asssignments. Any missed work listed that you do not
understand, please check with me or with another student in the class. You will
be expected to follow the handbook guidelines for turning in work missed while
absent and for scheduling make-up quizzes and tests. It will be your
responsibility to make up the missed work.
Homework is to be kept in your notebook. Some days
I will collect homework for a grade, other days I may do a notebook check. All
work must have your name and the date in French on the upper right corner of
the paper. Assignments not completed the date due may be turned in the
following day for less points. I will try to give time in class for longer
assignments. You will not have an assignment each night and I try not to give
assignments over the weekend and never during holidays. Assigned work is to
give you practice and to help you to learn. Learning a language is similar to
learning to play a sport or an instrument - repetitive practice is required to
excel. If you have a valid reason for not having an assignment completed,
please let me know- before class if possible. Never hesitate to call me at home
if you need help.
