Essay test: The Scarlet Pimpernel—after test work on vocab. unit 1/ Homework / /   also--- take note of text needed only for this story****  Appreciating Literature "The Red-Headed League" p. 2-18--expect to be able to relate this story to other stories read in oral discussion and in an essay--you will not need to bring this book to class on Thurs., but have notes on the story and answer all of Literary Focus p. 20 to the best of your ability/--to be discussed Thursday.

For the test over Rebecca  tomorrow be prepared to answer questions about the plot line, chronology, major characters and their importance in the novel, settings, and important dates--if any.------Be prepared to write an essay giving a character sketch of a designated character including physical description.  Tell about three or four traits of the character and be able to use examples from the novel to show how the character exhibited these traits.  (ex. cowardly--tell about a situation in which the character exhibited cowardice---this is merely and example).----- Be prepared to write an essay about the setting of the novel and how it was important to the plot line and to the characters.-----Be prepared to write about the author's purpose in writing the novel.  What is her worldview?  Can you tell?  How do you know?  Does the author teach any lessons?
