6th Grade French is a one quarter class which will meet Monday through Friday for 45 minutes. It will be an introductory conversational French class and will include study of the culture of French speaking countries. Each week new vocabulary will be introduced which will be used orally in class by everyone on a daily basis. Once vocabulary is introduced, it will be used for the remainder of the course. Acquiring vocabulary is a building process which requires continued use. Learning to speak a foreign language is much the same as learning to play a sport well; repeated practice is necessary to improve skill.
REQUIREMENTS:
Each day the student must bring a notebook with ample paper and a functioning pen or pencil.
This course is designed to be an enjoyable introduction to foreign language study, but it is not a free period or a study hall. Students not in their seat within 10 seconds of the bell will be counted tardy. A student who interrupts class will be held after class. Should interruptions continue, parents will be called. If necessary, the student will be excused from class and sent to Mrs. Maddox.
GRADING:
This class is a Pass/Fail class. A quarter grade of 75 is necessary to pass. Each week will include working with vocabulary, learning a memory verse or a song, culture study and a video to improve cultural awareness or a game to work with vocabulary. Usually I will give an oral quiz each week on the vocabulary, the verse and /or the song. Ample time will be spent during class to prepare for quizzes.
Je puis tout par celui qui me fortifie.
