Turn in Science Project Form 1.  Place in appropriate folder by class.  My substitute will read Lee Strobel’s “The Evidence of God” tract.  Then you will begin on the assignment that is due next Tuesday.  Assignment:  Write a paper of about 1000 words discussing the different viewpoints for origins of the universe that you have seen, read or heard discussed.  Discuss the source of these ideas and the philosophy behind them.  Give your ideas about the creation and support each idea with reasons.  Paper will be due Tuesday, August 28 and will count as a lab report.  Submit the paper as a file in Microsoft Word format with proper punctuation, spelling and footnotes.

 Test on chapters 1 and 2.  Assignment:  Study pages 42 – 46. 

Wednesday

 Discuss the limitations of collecting and using data.  Pinpoint the limitations of science.  Discuss chapter 2 questions.  Assignment:  Study for test on chapters 1 and 2.  

Tuesday

 View the remainder of the “Big Bang in Trouble”.  Discuss the video.  Assignment:  Study for test on chapters 1 and 2. 

Monday

 Introduce video on creation.  View the first half of the “Big Bang in Trouble”.  Quiz on chapters 1 and 2.  Assignment:  Review chapters 1 and 2. 

Week of August 13 – 17

Friday

Discuss facet on page 24 and 25.  Discuss the recognition of a problem and development of a hypothesis.  Present survey and experiment as methods of gathering data.  Assignment:  Study for quiz on chapters 1 and 2.  Study pages 36 – 39. 

Thursday

Describe a Scientific Method.  Discuss the various steps and possible variations of using the method. Discuss the application to the Science Project.  Assignment:  Study pages 34 – 36. 

Wednesday

Discuss data and how to gather data.  Perform class exercise on gathering data and report.  Assignment:  Write a paragraph describing the method used and the conclusions reached in the class exercise.  Study pages 31 – 33. 

Tuesday

Discuss creation science and operational science and the differences.  Distribute Science Project form 2 that will be due September 28.  Assignment:  Study pages 26 – 30. 

Monday

 Discuss the terms and concepts associated with the beginning of life, new species, changes within species and the philosophies describing these.  Are these sciences?  Were they observed?  What is a bias?  Are you biased?  What is your bias?  Does the Bible address science?  Discuss the different viewpoints of the origin of the universe.  Assignment:  Return signed letter from parents on Science Project.  Study for a quiz on chapter 1.  Study pages 20 – 25.      

Week of August 6 - 10

  Discuss the terms and scientific definitions used through page 10.  What do all of the new technology things have in common?  Quiz on terms through page 10?  Assignment:  Study all of chapter 1 and learn the scientific meanings of terms.  Be prepared for discussion of terms in class.
