Pre-Calculus

A.  Course Requirements

  1. Loose leaf paper and a 1 inch binder.
  2. Graph Paper. 
  3. Calculator.  TI 83-plus or higher. 
  4. Pencils and eraser.  All work will be done in pencil.  Work in pen will generally not be accepted.
  5. A willingness to put in the time and effort to master the material.

B.  Course Outline.

    We are using the Houghton Mifflin “Precalculus with Limits” book.  The following is the general topics we will be covering this year.

1.      Review of Algebra.

2.      Polynomial and Rational Functions.

3.      Exponential and Rational Functions.

4.      Trigonometric Functions.

5.      Trigonometric Applications.

6.      Systems of Equations and Inequalities.

7.      Matrices and Determinants.

8.      Sequences, Probability, and Statistics.

9.      Limits and an Introduction to Calculus.

C.  Grading.

    

     Your grade will be based on assignments, quizzes, and tests.  At the end of the quarter the points you have earned will be divided by the total points possible to determine your grade. 

   

     Assignments:  Assignments will be handed in daily.  They will be graded on accuracy (three of the problems) and completion (the rest of the problems).  Assignments will be worth from 4 to 7 points (1 to 3 for accuracy, 3 or 4 for completion).                  

    Quizzes:  Quizzes are worth between 5 and 50 points.  There will be between 1 and 3 quizzes each quarter.

    Tests:  Tests are worth 100 points each.  There will usually be 3 tests each quarter.

 

D. Classroom Behavior.

    1.  When the bell rings, class starts.  You are expected to be in the room, at your seat, ready to begin class.

    2.  Do not talk to each other during class except as a part of a directed class discussion.

    3.  Do not do work for other subjects during this class unless given specific permission by me.
