Middle
School Boys Physical Education
Coach Britton and Coach Goodwin
Course Philosophy Educating the mind about Physical Health is an extremely important
part of the development of any young person.
Well-conditioned individuals are also less susceptible to injuries or
delayed recovery periods following injuries. The program is designed to develop
the spiritual, emotional, physical, and social aspects of living necessary for
a happy and productive life. Students are introduced to the fundamentals of
team and individual sports, which include skills, rules, and game strategy, as
well as physical fitness. Emphasis in the program is placed on providing an
opportunity for Christian growth and success in teamwork.
Course Logistics
There two groups in the class and two teachers. Each group will work
differently from the others.
Each group will participate in the sport’s unit every other day. The other
group will be working on Conditioning. (strength
training, ply metrics, conditioning, and flexibility)
Course Goals
Our first priority is for students to become better men
because they were under our care. The students will participate in strength,
speed, agility, ply metric, and cardiovascular activities in order to improve
fitness level. The first priority,
however, is the sports unit where the sports will be strictly broken down into
fundamentals. We will cover the
following units in class:
-Volleyball -Kickball -Golf
-Basketball -Track and
Field -Football
-Strength Training
Grading
Participation is expected and comprises 75% of the student’s
grade. Within participation is the
proper dressing. (Athletic shorts in conjunction with school policy and
T-Shirts) Exceptions of sweat or wind
pants will be made in cold weather. The remaining 25% will be graded based on
speed improvement(timed), agility improvement(timed),
ply metric improvement(measured), and conditioning gains(tested)
Expectations

improvement in strength, speed, agility, ply metric,
