This year has marked the beginning of a close relationship between Westminster's family and Lincoln Village Ministry. Junior high and high school students have been involved all year in preparing meals and playing with kids at Lincoln Village's after school program called the Linc. The senior class chose to collect school supplies for Lincoln Academy, a new Christian elementary and middle school designed specifically for students who are zoned to public Title I schools. Though the elementary students are too young to go volunteer in person, that has not stopped them from also joining in as vital partners. Westminster's Madison/Monrovia elementary campus recently began the Make it Happen in May Book Drive. After the students realized that Lincoln Academy's library did not have any books yet, they followed the Lord's leading to give their own books so that the Lincoln Academy kids could enjoy them as they once had. Just as the good Samaritan saw someone in need and gave sacrificially of himself, so these elementary boys and girls have rallied together to serve their neighbors in Lincoln Village. In two weeks, one first grade class of only18 kids donated 308 books for Lincoln Academy's library. Their goal is to help fill those empty book shelves, and that goal is being fulfilled. What an example to the rest of us to also get involved!
